IPL Match 7 | Report of GT vs DC | IPL 2023

DC vs GT

Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets ensuring that the defending champions maintain their winning run in IPL 2023. Sai Sudarshan (62 off 48 balls) combined well with Vijay Shankar (29 off 23 balls), and later David Miller (31 off 16 balls) performed his finishing duties well to help GT register a hard-fought win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Toss Details

Earlier, DC had batted first and struggled to post a respectable total of 162 on the board. Captain David Warner top scored with 37 runs while vice-captain Axar Patel scored 36 runs.

Earlier Pandya had won the coin toss and opted to field first.

The decision seemed to be right as Prihvi Shaw was caught soon after. Meanwhile Mohammed Shami continued his terrific bowling as he also removed Mitchell Marsh, reducing DC to 37/2. Warner tried his best to salvage the situation, but he departed and DC kept losing timely wickets after this point.

Only vice-captain Axar Patel played some big shots in the fag end of the innings.

He also got support from Sarfaraz Khan (30 off 34 balls), but it was too little and too late.

Match Proceedings

Shami was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. It was a collective effort from GT as Josh Little picked up two alongside Rashid Khan who also picked up three wickets.

As GT came out to chase, the openers tried to start off big. But Anrich Nortje was in hot form. After being hit for a boundary, he managed to remove both the openers—Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha quickly. When Hardik Pandya got out to a peach of a delivery from Khaleel Ahmed, GT were staring down the barrel with the score reading 54/3. From here on, Shankar and Sudharshan combined well and forged a solid 53-run stand for the fourth wicket.  While Shankar got out, Sudarshan stayed put and alongside Miller saw his team through.

Later, Sudarshan was awarded the Player of the Match.
