Women’s IPL 2023 is almost here. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the inaugural edition and conducted the auction a few days ago. The five-team Women’s Premier League will begin on March 4, and the final is on March 26.

Inaugural Women’s Premier League

After a long wait, the women’s Indian Premier League will be a reality. The WIPL 2023 season will feature five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz complete the Women’s IPL teams list. The mega event in women’s cricket will begin immediately after the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium will be the venues in the first edition of the Women’s Premier League. The two stadiums will host 22 matches, including the eliminator and the final. Four fixtures will begin at 3:30 PM, while the rest of the matches will start at 7:30 PM.

Women’s IPL 2023 Schedule 

Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians will create history as they feature in the first-ever women’s IPL match. DY Patil Stadium will host the iconic fixture. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals will make their Women’s IPL debut by playing against each other on March 5. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz square off against Gujarat Giants in its league opener.

The league stage will conclude with the UP Warriorz fixture against Delhi Capitals on March 21. The team that finishes top of the table qualifies for the final. The second and third-placed franchises will fight for a place in the final. Brabourne Stadium will host the final on March 26.

The Men’s IPL 16th edition will begin on March 31.

Women’s IPL 2023 Squads

The five women’s IPL franchises bought players during the women’s IPL 2023 auction on February 13 in Mumbai. Top Indian players Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, and Shafali Verma were roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz, and Delhi Capitals, respectively. 

Women’s IPL 2023 Auction

A total of 87 players found a franchise during the auction. All five women’s IPL teams confirmed the overseas players’ quota for the inaugural edition. Apart from Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz, the rest of the three franchises completed their 18-member squad. 

Smriti Mandhana emerged as the most expensive player, with Royal Challengers Bangalore splashing out Rs 3.4 crore for the dashing left-handed batter. Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner was the costliest overseas signing. Gujarat Giants paid Rs 3.2 crore to secure Gardner’s signature.
