India Senior Women's T20 Team

India senior women’s T20 team produced its best performance in the T20 World Cup history three years ago. The ‘Women in Blue’ reached the competition’s final for the first time. Despite heavy defeat in the final, the Indian eves had won the hearts of cricket fans across India.

India Senior Women’s T20 – Thrice Semi-finalists

In its first T20 World Cup appearance, India reached the last four. The then-Jhulan Goswami-captained side lost their tournament opener against England. But victories over Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw them reach the semi-final.

The knockout clash didn’t go India’s way as New Zealand cruised to a 52-run win. India also reached the semi-finals in the 2010 and 2018 editions.

Women’s T20 World Cup – A Hat-Trick Of Disasters

After making it to the last four in the first two editions, expectations were high for team India in the 2012 World Cup in Sri Lanka. However, the Asian side lost all three matches in the group stage, including a one-run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan. India suffered opening round exits in the next two World Cups too.

India Senior Women’s T20 – Runner-up

India came into the 2020 edition of the women’s T20 world cup on the back of disappointing performances in the previous three editions. Harmanpreet Kaur’s India stunned Australia, who lead the women’s T20 world cup winners list, in the opening match. Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav guided India to a 17-run win. India defeated Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka and finished as the group winners.

The semi-final clash with England was abandoned, and India qualified courtesy of securing more points than England in the group stage. Australia was India’s opponent in the final. At MCG, Australia took revenge for the opening round loss and won its fifth World Cup title.
